Kentucky and fall go together perfectly. The beautiful weather and foliage provide a perfect setting for just about anything you want to do. There are lots of events to transition you into fall and to continue during the season. We can’t list them all but we have what we think are the five best fall events in Paintsville.
1. Kentucky Apple Festival
The annual Kentucky Apple Festival screams fall to us. They offer a yearly theme, and this years’ is Apple Time in Appalachia. There will be crafters with booths selling their handmade creations. Oh, and you can’t forget about the food. Dozens of vendors will offer foods of all types. Be sure to try fried apple pie! This is definitely a can’t miss event. The Apple Festival takes place on October 4 and 5 in downtown Paintsville.
2. Appalachian Handmade Craft Fair
This fantastic fall event will help you get ready for the upcoming holiday season. The Appalachian Handmade Craft Fair will have vendors with booths full of handmade items. You can find stained glass, home decor, wood, crafts and much more. They will also have food and drink available for purchase. The Appalachian Handmade Craft Fair takes place at the Jenny Wiley State Resort on November 2. Admission is just $1 for those ages 12 and over.
3. White Oak Pumpkin Patch
At the White Oak Pumpkin Patch, you can get all your front porch and carving pumpkins while enjoying a day full of family fun. They open for the season on August 30. They charge $3 per person for admission and also offer hayrides, train rides, pumpkin painting, and more. Children can enjoy inflatables, a petting zoo, and a play area. There is definitely tons to do for a beautiful fall day of fun. The White Oak Pumpkin Patch is in West Liberty, KY.
4. Visit Paintsville State Park
Normally, you would think of Paintsville Lake State Park as somewhere to visit during the summer, but the fall has just as much to offer. Camping here in the fall provides many opportunities to see the very best of nature. There are several great trails that are open to hikers, horseback riders, and bikers. The lake is gorgeous against the fall foliage and provides plenty of photo opportunities. The mountains are always beautiful as well. You can find the state park in nearby Staffordsville, KY.
5. Mountain HomePlace Farm
Mountain HomePlace Farm offers a variety of events all year long, but fall provides a different type of experience. Through October you can visit and see live demonstrations by interpreters dressed in authentic clothing from the 1850s. They also hold several events throughout the year that are fun to experience. The farm is located just a few minutes away in Staffordsville, KY.
No matter what you choose to do this fall in the Paintsville area, we are sure you will have a great time. This time of year is beautiful in Kentucky and has plenty to offer. Enjoy the season!
